Happiness and Success: Which is the Chicken and Which is the Egg?

For many of us, our idea of hard work, success, and happiness live together. We have memories of our parents saying that if we work hard and become successful, we will be happy. In fact, the relationship between happiness and success has become so ingrained that, even to imagine an alternative seems ridiculous.

But, what if this type of thinking is wrong, and our parents have the chicken before the egg?
What if we could challenge the old concept and begin with happiness as the key ingredient to our success?

Psychologists around the world are working on groundbreaking studies into the relationship between happiness and success. Their studies look at how happiness and success promote and enhance each other. In the field of positive […]

Finding the Happiness Zone

If you’ve ever played sports, you know what “The Zone” is; that place where everything seems to flow effortlessly from you into the task at hand. The most challenging action seems easy and unconscious, with excellence as the ultimate by-product of your efforts. Exertion is as simple as breathing and the results are nearly always exceptional. The happiness zone is much like this, enabling you to easily find and feel joy daily, if you seek it in all you do.

Of course, if you do know what The Zone is, you also know that it requires training and practice to achieve it with anything like regularity. The happiness zone is no different but, there are steps you can take to help […]

How Integrity Leads to Success and Happiness

Some thoughts on integrity, success and happiness…

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” – Mahatma Gandhi

That sounds quite a bit like the definition of integrity, doesn’t it?

“Integrity: 1) An undivided or unbroken completeness or totality with nothing wanting, 2) Moral soundness.” (WordWeb)

It’s interesting that the phrase from Gandhi came up in a search for quotations on happiness, yet it is the very definition of integrity. This seems important to me because it means that consistency of thought AND action are critical to happiness.

For practical purposes, we might say that honesty is being true in what you say, while integrity is being true in what you do; honesty is giving your word, […]

You Have 3 Solutions to Every Problem Situation or Relationship

“There are three solutions to every problem: accept it, change it leave it.” – Anonymous

Imagine for a moment the following: Three people are working for a boss with a reputation as a relentless driver of others, pushing them to produce or find employment elsewhere. For the employee with a similar personality, driven to succeed at all costs, working for this person is ideal and they excel in such an environment.

For the person who is an outside the box thinker, this type of approach toward all on the team is unrealistic and less than productive, so they work to alter the boss’s approach and expectations. For our third employee, the compulsive goading and obsessive ambition are simply too much to take, […]

Beware the Self-Indulgence of Always Living in Crisis

Beginning a new year usually brings some type of transition, if not real change. Following a national election, and this election in particular, most of us are expecting quite a bit of change. While many are apoplectic and seething, there are plenty of others who are optimistic and looking forward to positive changes. To both sides, I say, beware the self-indulgence of perpetually living in crisis mode; whether you believe we’re headed for one or have recently survived one (or many).

It’s one thing to recognize danger and take action to protect yourself and your family. To see every situation as an emergency however, is overly pessimistic and negative. The energy this creates is harmful, and will only attract negative vibration […]

Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs

What are the most important characteristics of successful entrepreneurs: Is it the ability to create a “vision of success”? Is it the desire to “do something special”? Is it the need to do it all yourself and “go it alone”?

While the first two are important positive characteristics, the third is the most frequent mistake made by emerging entrepreneurs; that is, thinking they must do it all – to be all things to all people, all the time. After all, few of us possess the knowledge, training, and experience to do everything required to run a business and, with this in mind, the successful entrepreneur knows that building a support system is critical to long-term success.

Building a Team to Support You

Goal Setting Ain’t Like Grocery Shopping

As we reach the end of the first month of 2017, the realization that 4 of 5 New Year’s resolutions have already been abandoned makes this a good time to look at goal setting, a theme we’ll undoubtedly visit regularly.

First, it must be said, there are some people for whom setting goals is a waste of time. These folks are simply happier using a “fly by the seat of the pants” approach, responding to the needs of the moment spontaneously and with little planning. That said, the folks who are successful doing this are in the minority and, if you’ve used such an approach in the past without success, it’s time to realize you’re not one of them; meaning – […]

How Limiting Beliefs About Wealth are Affecting Your Health & Happiness

Health and happiness are about far more than simply eating better and dumping toxic relationships. In fact, far too many people do not believe themselves worthy of either, or both, often because of the way they were raised and the belief system they’ve grown to accept – about the world they live in and about themselves. After all, being wealthy is about so much more than simply acquiring money; it’s about balance in all areas of your life.

When the beliefs that you hold dearest affect you negatively, they are called “limiting beliefs”, since they limit your ability to move forward, toward goals that you also value. This can create a great deal of internal conflict and stress, since such negative […]

A Practical View of The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction can be thought of in many ways: as a Universal law that is as rigid as the law of gravity or as a more fluid, more human type of thing; more of an influencer than an actual law. However you may interpret the effects of the Law of Attraction in your life, know this: it is real and, in it, you can find the power to help you make a better life.

The simplest way to understand the Law of Attraction is also the most common explanation – “like attracts like.” This is the belief that, when you surround yourself with positivity, good things happen and, when you surround yourself with negativity, the opposite will influence your […]
